PromptRail Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 24, 2026

Short version: PromptRail runs locally in your browser on ChatGPT pages. It reads the current ChatGPT conversation only to show a prompt navigator and export selected prompt-answer pairs as PDFs. It does not sell data, serve ads, track users across websites, or send your conversation content to the developer or any third-party analytics service.

What the extension does

PromptRail is a Chrome extension that adds a right-side prompt navigator to ChatGPT conversations. It helps users jump between prompts in long conversations and export a selected prompt with its corresponding ChatGPT answer as a PDF.

Information the extension accesses

When you use the extension on chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com, it may access the visible ChatGPT conversation content and same-origin ChatGPT conversation data needed to list prompts, navigate to prompts, and export selected prompt-answer content.

The extension does not intentionally access pages outside the ChatGPT domains listed in its Chrome extension manifest.

How information is used

Conversation content is used only to provide the extension's user-facing features:

Detect and list user prompts in the right-side navigator.
Navigate to a selected prompt in the current conversation.
Track the currently visible prompt while scrolling.
Export the selected prompt and answer as a local PDF file.

Data sharing

The extension does not sell, rent, or transfer user data to advertising platforms, data brokers, analytics providers, or other third parties.

The extension does not send your ChatGPT conversation content to the developer's servers. PDF generation and downloads are performed locally by Chrome extension APIs in your browser.

Data storage

The extension does not store your ChatGPT conversation history on external servers.

PDF files are saved only when you choose to export content, and they are saved to your browser's configured downloads location.

Permissions

The extension requests permissions only to support its features:

downloads: saves the generated PDF file.
debugger: uses Chrome's browser-provided print-to-PDF capability for the temporary export tab.
chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com host permissions: runs the navigator only on ChatGPT pages.

Remote code and analytics

The extension does not load remote JavaScript, does not use remote analytics scripts, and does not inject ads or affiliate links.

Limited Use statement

The extension's use of user data is limited to providing and improving its single purpose: ChatGPT prompt navigation and selected prompt-answer PDF export. The extension does not use user data for personalized advertising, credit-worthiness, unrelated profiling, or sale to third parties.

Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated if the extension's functionality or data handling changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
